Dr. John E. Taphorn, III, age 73 passed away June 2, 2012 at Adena Regional Medical, Center in Chillicothe , Ohio. Dr Taphorn was a resident and active community member of Waverly, Ohio for 36 years. He was born December 17, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his Master’s from St. Xavier University and his PhD in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati in 1975. Prior to his retirement, he worked for many years at USEC.
He was a longtime member of the American Chemical Society, the Pike County Rotary Club, the Grace United Methodist Church, the Community Choir, and the Pike County Service Club. One of his favorite hobbies was his role as Santa Claus for the Jingle Bell Parade and other Local Organizations for over 20 years. He also enjoyed serving as a Pike County Special Deputy for the Sheriff’s Department.
Dr. Taphorn is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Taphorn; his daughter. Susan Ahn and husband Kwangjin; and granddaughters Eun-Bi Hannah Ahn and Eun-Ju Lily Ahn. His mother, Stella Homan and his father, John E. Taphorn, Jr, preceded him in death.
John was a generous and compassionate man whose life touched many. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the BOYER FUNERAL HOME, in Waverly with Rev. Dan Evory Officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery, Denver Road, Waverly, Ohio.
Friends may call at the funeral home 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
